About Us

The second annual Daily Mirror Heroes of Youth Awards, in association with Lidl, celebrated the achievements and spirit of young people across Northern Ireland.

Nominated by you, the awards celebrate young people under the age of 18 from across Northern Ireland, recognising and rewarding them for their talent, courage and achievements that set them apart and make them the inspirational teens in our society.

Hosted once again by Colin Murray, the awards took place at The MAC, Belfast on Friday 20th May, 2016.

When the Mirror asked me to get involved with the HYAs, there was no question about it. I got a lucky break when I was 16 and it was amazing to meet these young people and celebrate their own personal stories.

Young carer of the year

A young person who has devoted their time to caring for another or others.

Fundraiser of the Year

This young person has gone beyond all expectations to raise money for a good cause however small or large the amount.

To recognise a young person who has made a positive impact on the environmental landscape of Northern Ireland.

Noel Grimley Electrics Child of Courage

To recognise a young person who has survived danger, or has battled against the odds through ill health or personal trauma.

Agnew Seat NI Role Model of the Year

This accolade goes to the Northern Irish personality who you, the youth of NI, feel has been most inspirational over the past year.
